Detail & Scale [first series]
The original Detail & Scale series pioneered in the late 1970s the idea of a close-up photographic look at the internal and external details of a specific aircraft type. Although these titles contain several pages of photographs and drawings, rather more narrative text is included here than in modern successor series.
The series was planned to be grouped into three 'series': Series III concentrated on accurate scale drawings backed up by a number of b+w photographs and scale modeller's reference information, Series II would have a more extensive photographic coverage looking at details rather than markings, and Series I would include even more photographs of details and markings. In the event, no Series I titles were published and Series II was expanded to include more photographs. Only four titles in total were issued before the publisher was taken over by Aero Publishers, who subsequently issued a very successful redesigned and expanded 'Detail & Scale' series from the same authors.
Series II: 48 pages with colour photos on the cover, 4 page 5-view 1/72 scale drawing, 6 pages instrument panel drawings, 15 pages internal & external detail b+w photos, 7 page modeller's section, references list. Series III: 28 pages with 4 pages 1/72 scale drawings, 5 small tone profiles, 2 pages instrument panel drawings, 5 pages b+w photos, 6 page modeller's section, references list.
