Aviation Book Series

Aviation Fact File/Modern Fighting Aircraft

The Aviation Fact File/Modern Fighting Aircraft series comprised a number of large format (almost A3 size) hardback books focusing on modern military aircraft operated by NATO and the West. Each volume included a concise development history and a look at the aircraft's operational career. However, the main appeal of this series was the illustrations. With typically more than 100 photographs (mostly in colour), colour drawings, a cutaway drawing, line drawings and dozens of explanatory diagrams - all presented in the familiar Salamander style - each title provided a highly pictorial introduction to the subject.

The last title in the series abandoned the Modern Fighting Aircraft theme and focussed on the US Space Shuttle, in the same pictorial style.

A US edition of this series was published by Arco, and Salamander subsequently republished the UK versions under the 'Combat Aircraft' series heading circa 1992.
