Academia Militar de Aviación

of the Honduran Air Force

History

Unit formed as Escuela Nacional de Aviación in 1924 with 3 Italian aircraft which were later supplemented by 5 other aircraft. The aircraft received serials H-1 to H-8 in an unknown order. All of the remaining aircraft were destroyed on 25.11.1924, when a United Fruit Company LS-5 crashed into the hangar at Toncontin and destroyed all aircraft. On 14.4.1931 the aviation school became part of the Ministry of War, Marine and Aviation. Military aviation became known in Honduras on 25.2.1936 as Fuerza Aérea y Escuela de Aviación Militar. The name changed to Escuela Militar de Aviación in 1943.
