Geography
Antigua and Barbuda is an island nation in the Caribbean. It is located on the eastern edge of the region, where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. Its nearest neighbours are Guadeloupe to the south, Montserrat to the south west, Saint Kitts and Nevis to the west and St Barthelemy, St Martin and Anguilla to the north west. Antigua and Barbuda consists of two main inhabited islands, Antigua and Barbuda, and 37 smaller islands. Barbuda is located 48 km north of Antigua, and is about two-thirds the size of Antigua.
The islands of Antigua and Barbuda are generally low lying limestone and coral islands, although Antigua does have a hilly region of volcanic origin in the southwest. The highest point in these hills rises to 402 m (1319 ft). The coastline of both islands is
characterised by numerous beaches, lagoons and natural harbours.
