Dominica is an island nation in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Its nearest neighbours are Guadeloupe to the north and Martinique to the south.
The terrain of Dominica is very rugged and mountainous, due to its volcanic origins. The highest point, Mome Diablotins, reaches 1,447 m (4,747 ft). The mountain sides are covered in unspoilt tropical rain forest. The very high annual rainfall results in many waterfalls, springs and rivers.
