The Country

Located in northern Europe, on the eastern side of the Baltic Sea, Estonia includes more than 1,500 islands. Estonia’s only landward neighbours are Latvia to the south, and Russia to the east. To the west lies the Baltic Sea, while to the north is the Gulf of Finland, which separate Estonia from Finland. The terrain is quite low flat, generally less than 200 m (565 ft) above sea level, partly forested and features several large lakes. The total land area is 45,125 sq km (17,423 sq miles).
The Population of 1.4 million (2000 figure) comprises 30% of Estonian origin, 62% Russian and 8% other ethnic groups. The Estonian language is closely related to Finnish. The capital city is Tallinn.

Civil Aircraft Registrations

Estonia was officially allocated the civil aircraft registration range C-Exxx in 1919, but this is not thought to have been used. A parallel system using E- to prefix a number was used instead. In 1929 the civil aircraft registration ES-AAA onwards was adopted. After independence was regained in 1991 the ES-AAA sequence was resumed.
