Geography

Micronesia is an island nation in the western Pacific Ocean. It nearest neighbours are Guam to the north, Palau to the west, Papua New Guinea to the south and the Marshall Islands to the east. The states are named Yap, Chuuk (previously called Truk), Pohnpei (previously called Ponape) and Kosrae (previously called Kusaie).

The islands of Micronesia vary from high mountainous islands of volcanic origin to low coral atolls. The volcanic islands are generally covered in tropical forest.
