'Aviation Design'
[Hors Limites SARL, ISSN 0997-3753]

Like 'Aéro Journal', 'Aviation Design' is a resurrection of an old title. The new bi-monthly version first appeared in June 2001. As before, it is edited by André Bréand and has the same ISSN number. Initially called just 'Aviation Design', the title was later expanded to 'Aviation Design Magazine'.

'Aviation Design' is a topical monthly aviation magazine mainly dedicated to the general public. It approaches aeronautics in all its forms, military and civil, technical and historical. Light aviation constitutes approximately 1/3 of the magazine through the insert 'Aviation Design Sport'. Topics covered each month are: L'Image du Mois (photo of the month), Actualite (circa 11 pages of aerospace news with an emphasis on new projects), Experimental (research and development test aircraft), Dossier (profile of a modern major aircraft type - usually a jet fighter), Defense (military aircraft developments), Aviation Civile (civil aviation issues such as an overview of the latest regional jets), Espace (developments in space technology), Technique (simple introduction to aerodynamic and aircraft design principles), Flash Back (a historical aircraft type), Warbird (photo and details of a specific type), Biblio/Web (book and software reviews). An additional feature called Check List gives a 4-page overview of a civil airliner type.

The magazine therefore concentrates on aircraft, and the technology that goes into them, and devotes little space to aircraft operators. A glossy A4 size magazine with 70 pages initially, but later with 100-132 pages in each issue. Illustrated throughout in full colour - colour photos, colour diagrams, colour cutaway drawings, 3-view line drawings etc with only a few b+w photos. Later issues included a CD-ROM of photographs and movies. The publisher was initially Hors Limites SARL, but later became Leading Edge Publishing.

'DogFight'
[Aéro-Éditions, ISSN ?]

Although short-lived, this magazine quickly became highly regarded. As the name suggests, it focussed on aerial combat between fighter aircraft and their pilots. The overall theme of each issue was a pair of fighter aircraft - one each from opposing sides. The text was divided into approximately 4-6 chapters, each one looking at a different aspect of the two aircraft, the units that operated them and and the pilots that flew them. Presented in full colour and without any advertisements, it was an A4 size publication with 60 pages in each issue. It was illustrated with many interesting photographs and excellent colour profile drawings. Publication ceased after issue 4. The editor was Christian-Jacques Ehrengardt.
