Weekly Publications and Partworks

'Aero'
[ ? publisher, ISSN ? ]

Subtitled Das illustrierte Sammelwerk der Luftfahrt. This was the German-language edition of the UK originated partwork Illustrated Encyclopedia of Aircraft. It was published in 240 weekly parts between 1984 and 1988. It is not clear what took the place of the RAF squadron histories series included in the UK edition. Many colour illustrations - photos, profile drawings, foldout colour artwork etc. Following issue 240 the series appears to have continued on, for at least another year, as a weekly magazine. It finally ceased publication circa week 30 of 1989.

'Die Deutsche Luftwaffe 1914 bis heute'
[GeraNova, ISSN-??, Euro14.95 + pp]

The publisher of the monthly Flugzeug Classic (see below) also produces a mail-order work that builds into a collection covering German military aviation in World War I, the Luftwaffe before and during the Third Reich, the former East German Air Force, and the present day Bundesluftwaffe.
It claims to provide a complete documentary history by presenting each type on just four pages, with text, photos and colour graphics. An introductory offer in 2002 included a ring binder, a set of index marker pages, seven aircraft portraits and a model kit (plus another of a Spitfire, free). Supplied on approval, the system envisages a further seven aircraft portraits being sent every three months. (German text).

'Flieger-Legenden'
[Weltbild Verlag, ISSN-??, Euro12.95 +pp]

The innovative concept used for this collection involves 1:100 scale die-cast metal aircraft models with panoramic fold-outs, each made up of four A4-sized cards. They combine rare photos, colour sideviews, development histories and operational details of famous aircraft with portraits and biographies of those who flew them. Following an introductory starter pack, featuring both Adolf Galland (Bf 109) and Johnny Johnson (Spitfire), subsequent single additions to the collection are sent to subscribers for 14 days` approval at a rate of one every four weeks. (German text).

[Weltbild Verlag, ISSN-? ]

Or, to give it its full title, Die faszinierendsten Flugzeuge der Welt (`The World's Most Fascinating Aircraft`). An earlier partwork from Augsburg-based Weltbild (see Flieger-Legenden above) first produced in 2000, this mail-order collection gave general coverage to civil and military aviation, helicopters, airships and modelling.
Priced at DM15 plus postage and packing when launched, each subscriber was sent a 1:72 scale model with each consignment of 32-page packs of A4-size collector cards every 4 weeks. (German text).
