Remarks
With effect from the August 2009 issue, the magazine ‘Aircraft Illustrated’ dropped the word ‘Illustrated’ from it’s title. In so doing, a well recognised unique brand was replaced by a completely generic keyword that produces 309 million hits on Google. This pointless change in title signalled the start of an increasingly rapid decline in the fortunes of the magazine, which was later renamed again to ‘Classic Aircraft’ and then closed down not long afterwards. At first the contents of the magazine was largely unchanged, but in 2010 the subtitle Classic Aviation at its best was introduced, highlighting the increasing emphasis on warbirds and aircraft from the recent past in the editorial content.
