In 1955, COPA (Canadian Owners and Pilots Association) launched ‘Canadian Flight’, subtitled ‘The pilot’s magazine’. The first edition was dated June 1955. The 52-page magazine was compiled by Margaret Carson (COPA founder), and Art Macdonald, manager of the Air Cadet League of Canada. The initial issue sported a colour cover and b+w photos inside.
By 1958 the magazine was bi-monthly and this frequency lasted into the late 1980s when the magazine went quarterly. In 1994 ‘Canadian Flight’ was changed into an annual directory for general aviation and COPA membership services, and renamed the ‘Canadian Flight Annual’. Some of the normal contents of the magazine was transferred to the monthly COPA newsletter ‘Canadian General Aviation News’ see below, which was then renamed ‘Canadian Flight’.
Although principally aimed at pilots, the magazine covered all aspects of flying and aviation in Canada, and was regarded as an authoritative high quality publication.
