In May 2001, the US distributor of the now defunct British magazines World Air Power Journal and Wings of Fame launched a replacement title, which combined the best aspects of these two publications. The old editorial team, led by by Dave Donald and Dan March, transferred to AIRtime Publishing to work on the new title. The contents typically comprises: a round-up of military aviation news, a series of short articles on various aircraft upgrade programmes and air arm changes, a 36-page feature on a major modern aircraft type, an in-depth review of a military air arm, a 38-page feature on a classic combat aircraft type, a variant by variant review of a specific aircraft type, an account of an aircraft type or unit on combat operations, plus shorter features on lesser-known aircraft types and photo features on military aviation topics.
Each issue typically has 184 pages, with about two-thirds devoted to contemporary military aviation and one-third to more historical subjects. Like it’s predecessors, each issue is highly illustrated, with scores of colour illustrations (photos and artwork) and the feature articles are relatively lengthy and very detailed. There are no advertising pages.
IAPR started to fall away from it’s quarterly publishing schedule in 2005 and only 2 volumes were published in 2006. From about volume 15 onwards there was a marked reduction in the amount of original colour and line artwork included in each issue, presumably to cut costs.
