This is a survey of Polish aviation, defence and aircraft scale modelling magazines. All magazines are Polish text only, unless otherwise stated.

'Aero'
[ ? publisher, ISSN ? ]

This was the Polish-language edition of the UK originated partwork Illustrated Encyclopedia of Aircraft. It was published in 240 weekly parts between 1984 and 1988. It is not clear what took the place of the RAF squadron histories series included in the UK edition. Many colour illustrations - photos, profile drawings, foldout colour artwork etc.

Aviation magazine published in 1990. The only known issue is 1/1990. The contents of which comprised F-4 PHANTOM II (with colour profiles); Fleet air arm; w zblizeniu PZL.23 KARAS i PZL P.38 WILK; Samoloty polskie zdobyte przez Luftwaffe. No further information.

'Aero - magazyn lotniczy'
[Oficyna Wydawnicza KAGERO, ISSN 1896-3951]

Glossy monthly magazine for aviation enthusiasts, from the well known book publisher. A4 size with 82 pages, illustrated with many colour photos and colour artwork, plus b+w photos and scale line drawings. The first issue was dated 1/2006.

'Aeroplan'

Subtitled 'ilustrowany magazyn lotniczy'. Highly illustrated bi-monthly Polish aviation magazine. 44 pages each, b+w and colour photos, line drawings and colour profiles. Contains feature articles on aircraft flown by Polish pilots, modern and historical aircraft types, aircraft markings, foreign military aviation, model kit and book reviews etc. First published in 1994 as a quarterly (2 issues), with four issues in 1995 and 1997 and 5 issues published in 1996 and 1999. Six issues were published in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and will be in 2004. (Since 2001 issue 5/6 has been a double issue with a CD-ROM).

First published in 1998, Bi-monthly magazine. Title means 'Military Aviation'. Contents comprises articles on foreign and Polish aircraft - including historical features. From issue 1 of 2004 is was renamed 'Lotnictwo' and became a monthly magazine.

'Lotnictwo z Szachownica'
[Wydawnictwo SANKO, ISSN 1643-5702]

Title means 'Aviation Chessboard' - a reference to the Polish national markings. Magazine exclusively devoted to the history of the Polish Air Force and its aircraft. First published in 2002 and reached issue 7 in late 2003.

'Maly Modelarz'
[Maly Modelarz, ISSN ?]

Title means 'Little Models'. Also referred to as 'Maty Modelarz'. Monthly magazine which comprises a fully detailed card/paper model of a specific subject. Usually 3-12 pages long, with the paper parts printed in colour. Subjects featured included aircraft, helicopters, boats, armoured vehicles etc. Aircraft models were usually to 1:50 or 1:33 scale. Published from 1957. Continued until at least September 2001.

Bi-monthly military history magazine, published since 2000. Title translates as 'Militaria and Facts'. A4 size, 56 pages, fully illustrated with b+w photos and some colour drawings. Originally published quarterly. Covers a wide range of military subjects, including pre-1900 topics, with aircraft features in each issue.

'Militaria XX Wieku'

Subtitled Ilustrowany Magazyn Historyczny. Bi-monthly magazine covering 20th Century military history. First published in 2004. A4 size publication with 78 pages in each issue. Most issues come with a free CD-ROM cover disc.

Title means Modeller. Monthly modelling magazine which also features aeromodelling items. Good aviation content, including a scale drawing in each issue of an aircraft important to Polish aviation history. First appeared in May 1955.

'Model Redukcyjny'

Scale plastic modelling magazine covering AFVs, aircraft, figures, vehicles etc. A4 size with 38 pages in each issue. Printed on glossy paper and illustrated with colour photos and colour artwork. Initially appearing bi-monthly, publication became very erratic after the first year. It appears to have ceased publication after issue 2004/2.

Title means 'Military Technology'. Monthly magazine, first published in 1991 as 'Technika Wojskowa' (Nowa/New - since 1992 - means new publisher). Includes aircraft technology section and historical articles on foreign and Polish Air Forces equipment.

Monthly magazine which comprises a fully detailed card/paper model of a specific subject. Usually 3-12 pages long, with the paper parts printed in colour. Subjects featured included aircraft, helicopters, boats, armoured vehicles etc. Aircraft models were usually to 1:35 scale.

Monthly magazine for private pilots. First issue dated June 2005. It is dedicated to pilots, airplane's owners, pilot-students, managers and all GA enthusiasts. The contents includes news and product reviews, aircraft flight tests, piloting skills, fly-ins and aircraft for sale.

Title means 'Modelling Plans'. Bi-monthly magazine featuring scale drawings for a specific subject. Subjects featured included aircraft, helicopters, boats, armoured vehicles etc. Included with the drawings was a feature article and detail photos of the subject. 5-7 pages in each issue. The aircraft plans were in scales 1:13, 1:15 etc. Published from 1965 to 1989.

Przeglad Lotniczy Aviation Revue is Poland's leading monthly flying magazine, covering the world of General Aviation. It includes articles on civil aviation, gliding, parachuting, paragliding etc. Launched in 1993. Member of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Title means 'Wings and Engine'. Subtitled: Tygodnik Mlodziezy Lotniczej (Weekly Magazine of Aviation Youth). A weekly magazine covering current and historical civil and military aviation, and also aeromodelling. Issue 1 was dated 16-23 June 1946. Ceased publication circa 1955. Issues published during the 1950s featured a lot of communist propaganda - half aviation and half propaganda in some cases. Published by Liga Lotnicza (Aviation League).

'Skrzydlata Polska'

Title means Winged Poland. Monthly publication. First published 1930-1939 and relaunched in May 1945. Ceased publication in 1991 but relaunched again in 1993 and still current. (It appeared weekly in the period 1953-1991). The counterpart to 'Flug-Revue' in Germany, covering civil and military aircraft technology, gliders and space. Includes a Polish Air Force camouflage and markings column with tone drawings. Initially titled 'Mlody Lotnik' (Junior Flyer), and appeared monthly 1924-1930 under this title.

Title translates as Military Review of Technology & Logistics. Bi-monthly magazine originally titled 'Wojskowy Przeglad Techniczny' (see above) but since 1994 published under a revised title. Reviews new defence products. The main point of view is the logistics behind the army/air force. * This is actually a Polish military unit.

'Zolnierz Polski'

Title translates as Polish Soldier. Monthly magazine. Changed its editorial design in the last 10 years to become a very informative magazine. The publisher, Bellona, is a very well known company for good media (books,mags,cd etc) and has developed from the defence ministry publisher.
