'Air Classics Quarterly Review'
[Challenge Publications, ISSN 0192-6934]

'Air Classics Quarterly Review' was a highly illustrated historical aviation magazine. It featured mostly military orientated subjects: air forces, air museums, units and aircraft types. It often included long articles of 20 pages or more. Typically of 80-116 pages in each issue, it was illustrated with many rare b+w and colour photos, and some 3-view line drawings. Unfortunately, many issues included some pages printed on very poor quality paper, which discoloured rapidly. ACQR was published between Spring 1974 and Summer 1980.

'Airline Quarterly' featured profile articles on airlines and airliners from the beginning of passenger service to the present day. It was an A4 size publication, highly illustrated with mainly b+w but some colour photographs. Several pages were printed on poor quality paper. 'Air Trails'
[Challenge Publications, ISSN none ]

Challenge Publications bought the rights to the old monthly 'Air Trails' magazine from the 30s and 40s (see separate entry) and hoped to recapture the glamour of this era. The magazine featured stories, profiles and scale drawings of aircraft from the 30s/40s as well as reprints of the Bill Barnes adventures and drawings from Doug Rolfe. Like 'Air Classics Quarterly Review', some of the paper used was of poor quality. Each issue was highly illustrated, mainly with b+w photos but there were some colour drawings/paintings. The first two issues featured a pull out mini-poster (which was dropped at issue #3). The last two issues were nothing but reprints of magazine articles from old magazines (probably the original 'Air Trails') all on poor quality paper. An A4 size magazine which ran from Fall/Winter 1976 to Summer 1979.

'Flightline'
[Flightline Magazine, ISSN 1084-0958]

'Flightline' is the only magazine printed in the United States that concentrates on North American military aviation after 1945. It is subtitled 'The Magazine of North American Military Aviation'. Each issue features over a dozen articles. The magazine is well produced with many b+w/colour photos. It was first published in 1992. No. 13 was dated Summer/Fall 2002, which indicates a publishing frequency somewhat less than quarterly. Due to distribution changes, Flightline will be published on an annual basis only in 2005, 2006 and probably 2007. It is planned to become a bi-annual publication in 2008.
Not connected to the American Airlines pilot's magazine of the same name.

'Scale Aircraft Modeler' was a scale plastic aircraft modelling magazine. It was published 5 times per year, including a January special issue of 100 pages. It featured a format that was almost identical to the monthly 'Scale Modeler', with several long kit reviews illustrated by lots of photos of the finished models but very few illustrations of the real subject. No modelling news or decal reviews were included. It was an A4 size publication of 84 pages each for regular issues, illustrated with b+w and colour photos, plus small 3-view drawings to un-usable scales. The first issue was published in October 1972. It ceased publication circa 2002.
