FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Where can I find out more about the Handley Page Halifax bomber, as featured in your aviation museum pages?
A: Try contacting The Halifax Aircraft Association.

Q2. My relative served in the RAF during WW2. Where can I find out more about his service and fate?
A: A British researcher called Geoffrey Negus has compiled a comprehensive database of British , Commonwealth and (Free) Polish air services personnel who died while in service, both in war and peace. This currently comprises over 60,000 records. Entries include date of death, service number, rank, crew function, full name, decorations, squadron (with base and equipment), age at death and place of origin, Records often also include circumstances of death and personal (eg sporting) achievements . The database is fully cross-indexed, so he can answer many queries using incomplete information.

Queries can be sent to: Geoffrey Negus

Q3. Where can I book a flight in a warbird-type aircraft?
A: In the UK, pay a visit to the Warbird Flying website or telephone: 01273 462784. They are based at Shoreham, near Brighton, and offer half-hour flights in a T-6/Harvard trainer. People who've tried it say the service is excellent.

If you are planning a trip to the states, The Air Museum Planes of Fame in Chino offer flights in the back of their P-51 and P-40. A 45 minute flight in April 1999 was rated very good value at $375. "Words can't describe it".

Q4. Where can I get hold of back-issues of a particular aviation magazine?
A: A list of aviation magazine dealers can be found here.
