Norwegian Aviation Museum
(An Unofficial Guide)

What's Here:

Opened in 1994, the Norwegian Aviation Museum (Norsk Luftfartsmuseum) combines the Norwegian Air Force collection, (formerly at Gardermoen), with exhibits from the Norwegian Civil Aviation Museum, to portray all aspects of Norwegian aviation history. Housed in a specially constructed building shaped like a two-bladed propeller, the museum is located on the site of a former World War Two Luftwaffe air base. The museum houses an extensive collection of aircraft, including a number of unique or very rare types. Several Luftwafe aircraft have been rescued from Norwegian fjords in recent years, including two Junkers Ju 88s, and these will gradually be restored to display condition.

Location:

On the road named 'Olav V Gate', in the city of Bodø, approx. 2 km from both the city centre tourist information office and Bodø Airport. At Bodø outskirts, the road from the airport branches left into the city and right towards the museum (as Olav V Gate). From Fauske and Highway E6, it is 65 kilometres along branch road 80 to Bodø and the Norwegian Aviation Museum.
