'Flying Aces' Movie Aircraft Collection
(An Unofficial Guide)

What's Here:

Since the 1960s, Bianchi Aviation Film Services has been involved in supplying aircraft, pilots and crews and special effects for film and television productions. These productions have included 'Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines' and 'The Blue Max', together with several more recent features. Often, the original aircraft were not available for filming, and the company developed an expertise in building exact reproductions of vintage aircraft. During the 1990s this growing collection of flying 'film star' aircraft was on show at the 'Blue Max' Movie Aircraft Museum, Wycombe Air Park, but in June 2003 the entire collection moved to Compton Abbas.
Visitors here can view an impressive collection of film memorabilia, and examine the aircraft which were actually used in the films. The aircraft are kept in airworthy condition and can still be called-upon to appear in new productions.

Location:

At Compton Abbas Aerodrome, south east of Shaftesbury, Dorset. On the A350 between Shaftesbury and Blandford Forum, take the A30 to Salisbury, but quickly turn onto the B3081 towards Ringwood and then take the C13 towards Blandford Forum. The airfield is on the right after Melbury Abbas on the C13. See this location on Microsoft Live Search Maps
