Manchester Airport Aviation Viewing Park
(An Unofficial Guide)

What's Here:

The purpose-built Viewing Park has a Visitor Centre and a growing collection of aircraft exhibits. Particularly useful here are the three raised viewing platforms, which offer good views of the active runways and taxying aircraft.

Location:

By Car:
From Junction 6 on the M56, take the A538 towards Wilmslow. After about half a mile appears 'The Romper' public house on the left. Turn left here down Sunbank Lane, then right onto Wilmslow Old Road at the bottom, and follow the road to the gate entrance.

By Public Transport:
Take the train to Manchester Airport, then catch a bus. The journey time from the Airport station to the viewing park is about 10 minutes. Selwyns operates the Styal Shuttle bus 201 on weekends and Bank holidays. Buses leave the Station at 08.25, then every hour from 09.32 till 17.32. Buses leave the viewing park every hour from 09h25 till 17.25. The cost at time of writing is 80p return.

From May 29th to October 23rd 2004 UK North operates buses at weekends and Bank holidays. The buses leave the station every ½ hr from 08.55 & 09.25 till 16.55. They leave the viewing park every ½ hr from 09.10 & 09.40 till 17.10. Cost at time of writing is £1.00 single and £1.50 return.

Arriva North West operates a daily service (bus 19, 19A, 19B, 19C) stopping at the rear of the World Freight Terminal. From here the viewing park is about 10 minutes walk. 19/19B run at ½ hr intervals from 07.25 - 22.55 daily departing from the station to the World Freight Terminal, whilst 19A/19C leaves the World Freight Terminal every ½ hr from 07.30 till 18.00 Monday - Saturday. At the time of writing it costs 60p single.

Opening Hours:

Open daily 08.30 am to dusk; Closed 25 December (Christmas Day).

Admission:

Monday to Friday: : £3.00 Car + driver, £2.00 motorbike + rider, additional passengers (aged 4+) £1.00, Cyclists and walkers £1.00.

Concord Tours:
At the time of writing these cost £10.00 per person plus entry fee to the Aviation Viewing Park. If you are interested in a tour please phone the Airport Tour Centre on 0161 489 3932 as tour places are limited.
