Nations

The Aeroflight coverage of aviation by geographical area is divided into two sections, Countries and Territories.

Countries are defined as independent self-governing sovereign states. There are currently 206 such states recognised by the Unted Nations. Several formerly existing countries there were internationally recognised are also included.

The Territories covered by this website are colonies, dependencies and break-away regions of sovereign states, which are actually or nominally subject to governance from an external country.

In addition to the above geographical entities, there are a number of military and political alliances between countries which exist or have existed in the past. Many of these have used aviation.
