History

Narrative Summary

The Swedish Coast Guard was originally formed as an anti-smuggling force, but after WW2 gained new responsibilities such as enforcing maritime regulations and the monitoring of sea traffic. From 1971 the Coast Guard also became responsible for fighting sea pollution and in 1978 for regulating sea fishing. To help with these additional tasks, an Flight Command was established in 1976 – initially with a pair of Reims-built Cessna Super Skymasters. In 1986 three CASA Aviocars took over the flying tasks, equipped with a comprehensive array of sensors and recording equipment.
