History

Narrative Summary

Originally established in 1979, Newborn and paediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS) is a statewide service of NSW Health, providing emergency medical transport service for newborns, infants and children. In 1989 a helicopter was introduced, and operated under the title Child Flight. Further helicopters were subsequently obtained.

In November 2012 it was announced that Child Flight had lost the contract to provide helicopter transport for NETS. The new contractor would be CareFlight. Due to the short notice of contract termination, and to smooth the transfer of operations, Child Flight was given a further 5 months to close its helicopter service. Child Flight now only operates as a fund-raising charity for childrens medical transport.
