As a keen stamp collector I have in my possession a postcard carried on Autogyro G – ACIN over the route of the first UK aerial post from Windsor to London.
The front of the card has a red hand-stamp with basic details of the flight; the signature of ‘John S Davis’; a KG5 1/2d postage stamp (cancelled by an ‘AIR POST EXHIBITION/LONDON’ hand-stamp dated 8 May 1934); the serial number ‘238’; the delivery address of ‘Stand No. 12/”APEX”/Royal Horticultural Hall/Vincent Square/ London’; and a Green souvenir label for the APEX exhibition.
The rear of the card has a picture of the Autogyro (with a Red hand-stamp for ‘APEX 1934’; a black print of the souvenir label; an adhesive label reading ‘By AUTOGYRO G – ACIN/HANWORTH-WINDSOR-HENDON-HANWORTH/MAY 8th 1934/Pilot R BRIE Passenger JOHN S DAVIS/This card was flown over the route of the first U.K. Aerial Post, with permission of the P.M.G.’; and a hand-stamp reading ‘BCM/AIR FIELD.’

Hi there just wanted to let you know about our event:

Wickenby Wings and Wheels – 18/19 June 2011
Airshow weekend with aircraft from WW1 and WW2 right up to modern day aerobatics flying both days. Static vintage and modern aircraft, vintage cars, trade stalls, WW2 NAAFI truck, cafe and children’s entertainment.

On Saturday night we’re having a ‘Fun of the 40s’ Dinner Dance with two course meal, live swing music, dance floor and bar! It kicks off at 6.30pm with aerobatics displays, and as the sun sets hot air balloons light up the skies around the WW2 marquee (flying events all subject to weather!)

Bentwaters Cold War Museum is based in the United States Air Force (USAF) hardened command post on the former Bentwaters airbase which closed after the withdrawal of the USAF in 1993 and is believed to be the only such building open to the public in the UK and Europe.
Plenty of car parking space and is suitable for all ages and has the added benefit of being an ideal all weather visitor attraction.
The new café and shop has proven to be a great success offering light refreshments and souvenirs.
