Northrop F-5E/F Tiger II

in Royal Bahraini Air Force Service

History

Eight F-5E fighters and four F-5F two-seat trainers ordered from the manufacturer in 1985 in two separate contracts and delivered between December 1985 and January 1987. These aircraft were of the late production standard with flattened ‘shark’ nose, and a dorsal ILS antenna but not the extended fin fillet. Used initially for fighter interceptor duties by the 6th Fighter Squadron, but after the F-16s arrived they were used mainly for the air-to-ground role.
