Narrative Summary
The Coast Guard was first created in 1987. Prior to this date a Cessna 402B had been operated by civilian company Martinair Holland for coastal patrol duties under contract to the Rijkwaterstaat. This aircraft was replaced by a Cessna 404 in 1982, and then a Dornier Do 228 in 1990. Both of these aircraft were operated under contract by Martinair Holland.
A re-organisation of Coast Guard operations took effect from January 2007. This saw the end of the previous leasing arrangement. Two Do 228s fitted with more modern mission systems were introduced into service, to replace the well-used previous example of the type, with operation and servicing now conducted by the military.
