The 448th Bomb Group operated from Seething with B-24 Liberators in World War 2. Situated in the restored control tower here is a museum dedicated to the history of the airfield and the surrounding area.

Directions

What’s Here

The Muckleburgh Collection comprises a large number of military vehicles, many of which are in full working order. The Meteor is on loan from the Imperial War Museum. Further displays include the Royal Flying Corps and the modern armed forces. Several aero engines and missiles are on show. Live tank demonstrations take place every Sunday, and daily during the summer season.

The City of Norwich Aviation Museum is located at the edge of Norwich Airport, allowing viewing of airport activity. The internal displays trace the history of aviation in Norfolk, particularly at RAF Horsham St Faith and in the Norwich area. One hall is devoted to the work of 100 Group, RAF Bomber Command, the radio countermeasures unit and the presence of the USAAF 8th Air Force in East Anglia during World War Two.

What’s Here

A museum dedicated to the USAAF’s famous ‘Bloody Hundredth’ Bomb Group of World War Two. Located in and around the restored control tower of the former bomber base, the museum tells the story of Thorpe Abbotts and portrays every-day life on an American bomber base. A D-4 link trainer is on display, while a B-24 tail turret is undergoing restoration. Special events and reunions are frequently staged.

At Thorpe Abbotts, off the A140 at Dickleburgh or signed north from the A143, east of Diss in Norfolk.
