North American AT-6 Texan

History

A total of some 48 examples of various versions obtained from several sources between 1943 and 1980. Three AT-6C delivered in 1943 and subsequently reserialled. One AT-6D obtained from Brazil in 1962, followed by 28 more AT-6D/T-6G between 1972 and 1975. Ten from South Africa plus seven directly from storage that did not see SAAF service, 1979-80. Eighteen sold in the USA to private owners during 1991. Two aircraft retained for FAP Historic Flight. Used by various units.

Initially the serials used just odd numbers, but in 1979-1980 some renumbering took place to fill in the gaps.
