7 Squadron

History

Number 7 Squadron was formed in 19?? to operate the MBB Bo 105C. These helicopters were the first equipment of the Bahrain Defence Force Air Wing, which later split into separate squadrons as it expanded. The unit forms part of the Helicopter Wing at Rifa’a Air Base.

6 Squadron

of the Royal Bahraini Air Force

History

The 6th Fighter Squadron was formed in December 1985 to operate the F-5E/F Tiger II as an interceptor fighter. The unit relinquished its fighter role to the newly arrived F-16s in 1990, and took on the attack role. The unit forms part of 1st Fighter Wing at Shaikh Isa Air Base. Some combat operations were conducted against Iraqi forces during the Gulf War of January-February 1991.

The 2nd Fighter Squadron was formed in 2000 to operate the F-16C Block 40s delivered under Peace Crown II. The unit forms part of 1st Fighter Wing at Shaikh Isa Air Base. Two F-16D Block 40 dual-control trainers were transferred from the 1st Fighter Squadron to assist conversion training.

1 Squadron

History

The 1st Fighter Squadron was formed in 1990 to operate the F-16C/D Block 40. The unit forms part of 1st Fighter Wing at Shaikh Isa Air Base. Even though the unit had only recently been established, some 167 combat sorties were flown against Iraqi forces during the Gulf War of January-February 1991.

Sikorsky UH-60A/L Black Hawk

in Royal Bahraini Air Force Service

History

One UH-60L acquired new from the manufacturer in 1995. Equipped with ESSS pylons and external fuel tanks. Used for VIP transport duties by the 9th Squadron. The former Westland WS70 demonstrator was aquired in 1996.
