History
Seventeen HAL-built SA316B Alouette III were obtained from 1978 onwards. Initially 6 examples were ordered from HAL in 1978, the first two being received in May 1982. Additional examples were delivered in the mid 1990s. By 1998 a strength of 18 Chetaks had been achieved, with a planned total buy of 36 examples. The Chetak is used by 800, 841 and 848 Sqns.
