The 2nd Fighter Squadron was formed in 2000 to operate the F-16C Block 40s delivered under Peace Crown II. The unit forms part of 1st Fighter Wing at Shaikh Isa Air Base. Two F-16D Block 40 dual-control trainers were transferred from the 1st Fighter Squadron to assist conversion training.
