History
The 6th Fighter Squadron was formed in December 1985 to operate the F-5E/F Tiger II as an interceptor fighter. The unit relinquished its fighter role to the newly arrived F-16s in 1990, and took on the attack as its main role. The unit forms part of 1st Fighter Wing at Shaikh Isa Air Base. Some combat operations were conducted against Iraqi forces during the Gulf War of January-February 1991.
