Unit History


No.5 Squadron
(Motto: 'Find And Destroy')

The unit was first formed on 13 April 1959 to operate 15 Canberra B.2s from New Sarum in the bomber/photo reconnaissance role. With the withdrawal of the Canberra in 1983 the unit was disbanded.

No.5 Sqn was reformed in 1986 to operate the Chengdu F-7 from Thornhill. The Chengdu FT-5 was operated for conversion training, but later replaced by the Chengdu FT-7BZ.
