Unit History

No.7 Squadron
(Motto: 'Fight Anywhere And Everywhere')

No.7 Squadron was first formed in 1962 to operate the Alouette III from New Sarum. The unit co-operated closely with the Army, particularly in Fireforce operations where the Alouettes act as troop carriers and gunships armed with 20 mm and 0.303 in machine guns for fire suppression. Other roles include SAR, casevac and general transport. No.7 Squadron also provides helicopter pilot training. The unit still operates the Alouette III, but these are now supplemented by Mi-35 Hind gunships.
