Aircraft Types NOT Used

This page gives details of some of the aircraft types that were offered or promised to the Union of Burma Air Force/Tamdaw Lay but not delivered, cancelled official orders, and types that have been falsely reported as being in service.

Antonov An-26 Curl
No An-26s have ever served with the TL.

Antonov An-32 Cline
In 1994, Russia offered to supply a number of military aircraft to Myanmar. Among the types offered were An-32s. In the event, no An-32s were delivered.

DH 98 Mosquito FB VI
Although almost every book on the venerable Mosquito includes brief mention of 'some' FB VIs as being supplied to Burma in the early 1950s, no Mosquitoes of any variant ever served with the UBAF. In fact, Mosquitoes were once considered by the British Air Mission to Burma, but rejected.

DHC-5 Buffalo
One source credits in error the TL as operating the DHC-5 Buffalo.

Kawasaki-Vertol KV-107-II
Reported as delivered, but may be confused with the Vertol V-44As delivered around 1963. The Vertol helicopter s/n 6009 which is preserved at the Defence Services Museum in Yangon is, in all likelihood, a V-44A.

North American AT-6 Texan
According to published sources, the UBAF never received any variant of the AT-6/AT-16/SNJ series. However, the semi-restored Spitfire IX 'UB-425' displayed at Mandalay during the 1970s featured the empennage of an AT-6. The source for these parts is unclear, although they may have emanated in Thailand. Another possibility is that the Texan parts were supplied by Frank Sanders, who purchased Sea Fury T.20 UB-451 in 1978.

North American F-86F Sabre
Twelve offered by the USAF in 1968. Offer rejected.

Yunshuji Y-12-II
No examples of this light twin-engined transport aircraft are operated by the TL.
