Unit History
No.? Helicopter Squadron
Role: Transport
Initially formed as a Helicopter Flight, with KB-47Gs from the Flying Training School. HH-43B and KB-47G operations later became separate squadrons at different bases. Alouettes passed to Transport Squadron by 1998.
It would appear that most, if not all of the MAF helicopter fleet are based at Keng Tung with a single helicopter squadron. Twelve Bell 205A-1 were reported in use during the mid-1990s. Although the seven Bell 206s delivered to Burma around 1978, it is believed that they were civilian registered, and therefore not operated by the UBAF/MAF. However, if this should not be the case, they are most likely attached to this squadron. It is unclear whether the UBAF/MAF have received the dedicated military model UH-1H - one, s/n 6220, was observed in October 2000. Eighteen Mi-2, eleven Mi-17 and ten W-3 were reported in service in 2003.
