Unit History

190 Squadron

(190 Tayeset "Ha'Defender'iet" - The Defender Squadron)
Role: Anti-tank/Reconnaissance/Weapons Training

A squadron of Hughes 500MD/TOW Defender armed scout helicopters was formed in 1985 with aircraft transfered from 160 and 161 sqns. This unit has been identified as 190 Squadron. It was initially based at Palmachim alongside the AH-1 sqns but later moved to Ramat David.

The type is used in the anti-tank, armed reconnaissance and helicopter weapons training roles - and also for coastal/border anti-terrorist patrols. The IDF/AF examples are fitted with Black Hole Ocarina side mounted exhaust outlets to reduce IR signature.

The unit has now converted to the AH-64A Apache.
