Unit History
254 (Reserve) Squadron
(254 Tayeset - The Midland Squadron)
Role: Air Defence/Attack
The Midland squadron was a new unit formed in mid 1980 from reserve pilots to operate the Mirage IIIs obtained from 253 Negev Squadron. In 1982 the squadron was converted to the Kfir C2 with aircraft from 109 Valley Squadron. The squadron was dis-established in 1984 and their aircraft were transferred to Israel Aircraft Industries to prepare for delivery to the U.S Navy. There the Kfir was designated F-21A Lion and served as an “aggressor“ aircraft in unit VF-43.
The first and only C.O. was Lt.Col. Giora Epstein (with 17 jet aircraft „kills“).
