Mil Mi-4/Harbin Z-5 'Hound' * Retired *
Four Soviet-built Mi-4A delivered in (September?) 1957, followed by 3 more in 1958. Based at Lapraka. One example was lost in an accident. Thirty Z-5 (24 Mi-4A models and 6 Mi-4S models) delivered from China in 1967-1971. The Mi-4A is the utility version (normally painted green), with round windows and a ventral gondola. The Mi-4S is VIP transport version (normally painted white), with square windows and no ventral gondola. Used by 4040 Regiment at Farkë. The Mi-4Ss are used for VIP transport, air ambulance and SAR duties, while the Mi-4As are used for utility transport, AOP and SAR duties.

During the riots of March 1997, some of the Mi-4s already withdrawn from service were severely damaged, but the eleven examples still operational remained untouched. Two Mi-4s were flown to Brindisi, Italy, on 13 March 1997 by crews requesting asylum. Both helicopters were subsequently returned. The last operational Mi-4 was withdrawn from service on 27 November 2003. (Three are kept operational for use in national emergencies: 6-48, 6-54 at Kucove and 6-58 at Farke).
