Role: Military Operations.
During the Falklands War
BAM Trelew and "Escuadrón Mk62 Canberra"
were formed on 10.4.1982 with aircraft of Grupo 2 de Bombardeo at BAM
Brigadier General Urquiza on board of Base Aeronaval Almirante
Marcos Zar at Trelew. The first operation took
place on 1.5.1982, when six aircraft started to attack British positions at the
Falkland Islands. One Canberra was damaged and one was shot down by a British
Harrier. From 27.5.1982 the remaining Canberras only conducted night bombing
raids ending with a two ship operation on 13.6.1982, when B-108 was shot down by
HMS "Exeter". The squadron returned to its homebase on 20.6.1982 and
the unit was
disbanded.
