Role: Antarctic Flight Operations.

The base was founded on 15.3.1961 as a joint operation between the Argentine Army and the Air Force as the Base Conjunta Teniente Matienzo ("Joint Base Lieutenant Matienzo") and on 15.11.1963 its name was changed to Destacamento Aeronáutico Teniente Matienzo, depending under the Air Force only this time, and since 1965 the name has been changed to the one it has today. Grupo Aéreo Antártico 1 with DHC-2 Beaver and DHC-3 Otter operated from this base. It was shutdown during the years 1972-1973, and was reopened on 8.9.1974, then closed again in 1984-1985, changing its status since to a non-permanent base.
