Unit History

Escuadrón II / Grupo 4 de Caza

Role: Fighter/Training.

The unit was formed in 1972 with MS.760 Paris from the disbanded Grupo 1 de Caza-Bombardeo. From 1975 the squadron was reequipped with the surviving F-86F. During the next years most of these aircraft were stored at AM Río Cuarto. Because of the rising tensions with Chile a "Escuadrón Sabre F-86F" was formed and sent to BAM Río Gallegos on 13.12.1978. After the end of hostilities the unit was disbanded in 3.1979. From 1984 the squadron operated the F-86F Sabre again until she was disbanded on 15.8.1986. The unit was reformed on 9.5.1988 with I.A. 63 Pampa. The surviving aircraft were upgraded to AT-63 Pama and delivered from 2006. Six new built aircraft joined the unit from 2007.
