Narrative Summary:
The Comando de Aviación was formed on 1.10.1970 at Aeródromo Tobalaba in
Santiago. In 1978 some Peloton de Exploración Aérea were formed, which supported
the army divisions. In 1980 the Batallón de Aviación 7 'La Independencia" was
formed as headquarter for the detachments and the unit moved to Rancagua. The
battalion became Regimiento de Aviación Nº1 'La Independencia' on 2.8.1984. The regiment is now the higher command
for the Batallón de
Enlace y Control, Batallón de
Exploración y Reconocimiento, Batallón
Aeromóvil and the Batallón de
Transporte. The regiment is subordinated to the
Brigada de Aviación del Ejército, which was formed on 2.1.1995.
