Narrative Summary:
The unit got its first aircraft, a Cessna 182E, in 1962. In 1973 the unit got a Beech Queen Air on loan from the Ministerio del Interior. On 9.9.1974 the Investigaciones de Chile became part of the Subsecretaría de Investigaciones of the Ministerio de Defensa. On 26.9.1974 the Sección de Transporte Aéreo was formed. On 27.1.1976 this unit became subordinated to the recently formed Departamento de Transportes. The unit became Brigada Aeropolicial de Investigaciones de Chile on 24.6.1977 and its headquarters moved from Cuartel Zañartu to the Cuartel Central of the Police at Calle Gral. Mackenna in Santiago. In 1979 the brigade added three Cessna aircraft to its inventory. The Investigaciones de Chile became Policía de Investigaciones de Chile on 3.7.1984. In 2002 the brigade got its first helicopter, an Eurocopter AS.350B Ecureuil.
