Ala de Combate 21

Role: Fighter, Fighter/Attack.

The Ala de Combate 21 was forrmed in 1957 as Grupo Aérea Taura with Escuadrón Táctico 12, Escuadrón Táctico 13 and Escuadrón Táctico 14 as subordinated units.

 

Escuadrón de Combate 2111 "Jaguares"

Role: Fighter, Fighter/Attack.

The unit became operational as Escuadrón Táctico 13 with Gloster Meteors in January 1957 as a unit of Grupo Aérea de Taura. The unit was renumbered Escuadrón de Combate 2111 in 1966 and used the Jaguar aircraft from 1977. In 1981 the name of the squadron was changed from "Aguilas" (Eagles) to "Jaguares" (Jaguar). The unit was disbanded in 2002, when the Jaguar were put in storage to be later sold.

Escuadrón de Combate 2112 "Mirage"

Role: Fighter, Fighter/Attack.

The unit became operational as Escuadrón Táctico 14 with Lockheed F-80C/T-33A in January 1957 as a unit of Grupo Aérea de Taura. When enough Lockheed F-80C were available the Lockheed T-33A Shooting Star formed at new squadron at BA Taura, Escuadrón Táctico 12. The unit was renumbered Escuadrón de Caza-Bombardeo 2112 in 1966. From 1975 till 1979 the squadron operated A-37B. The unit was reequipped in 1978 with the recently procured Mirage F-1JA. In late 2009 the squadron received six Dassault Mirage 50DV/50EV from Venezuela.

Escuadrón de Combate 2113 "Leones"

Role: Fighter, Fighter/Attack.

The unit was formed on 4.6.1962 as Escuadrilla de Vuelo 1 of the Escuadrón de Rescate y Salvamento 2113 with six H-41A Seneca at Guyaquil. The squadron received six H-19B in 1965. On the 23.11.1972 a new unit was formed, the Grupo de Rescate 221 to operate the helicopters, part of the newly formed Ala de Combate 22. The Escuadrón de Combate 2113, as the unit is now known in Taura, became operational with T-28D in 1966 and operated BAC-167 from 1972 until 1979, when the unit was disbanded only to be reactivated with Kfir from 10.3.1982.
