El SalvadorAir Force
Unit History
Role: Fighter/Attack. The unit was first mentioned during the "Soccer War" 1969,
consisting of 2 flights (Escuadrilla) with North american F-51 and FG-1D assigned respectively.
In 1986 the Escuadrón Caza y Bombardero was renamed Grupo Caza y Bombardero now
under the control of the Ala de Combate. After the new airbase at San Luis Talpa
was ready for operations the Grupo Caza y Bombardero became the resident unit at
BA Comalapa. With the number of operational
aircraft began to dwindle the Grupo Caza y Bombardero was again reorganised and became
Escuadrón Caza y Bombardero again under the "Plan Arce
2000".
