![]() Geography: The Republic of Haiti occupies the western third of the island of Hispaniola. Even more than its neighbour, the Dominican Republic, it is dominated by ranges of steep mountains which divide the country into a series of valleys and generally narrow coastal plains.. It is located between 72° to 74° western geographic longitude and 18° to 20° northern geographic latitude and has an area of 27,560 square kilometres (10,638 square miles). The latitude and longitude of the capital, Port-au-Prince, are about 72°20' W and 18°36' N.
