Aircraft Types
Dewoitine D.520
Ninety-six D.520 C1 delivered Sept-Oct 1943. Former French Air Force aircraft. Contract signed in August 1943 for 100 aircraft to be delivered in September and 24 more later in 1943, but only 96 delivered. Used by 2/6 and 3/6 Orliak for the interceptor fighter role. In May 1945 about 40 survivors were transferred to the Fighter School. In late 1946 (or 1947) these aircraft were finally retired and scrapped. After several fatal accidents occurred during early pilot training, several examples are reported to have been locally modified to a two-seat configuration to allow easier type conversion. Military type number 7077.
