Bulgaria Air Force
Aircraft Types
Petlyakov Pe-2, Buck
Ninety-eight new-build Pe-2 delivered from May 1945. Used by 1st & 5th Polk and later the 15h Recce Aviopolk for the bomber & reconnaissance roles. A significant number of Pe-2s were based in Yugoslavia after 1946 to avoid the 1946 Paris Peace Treaty restrictions on the number of offensive aircraft operated by Bulgaria. These were taken over by the Yugoslav Air Force after Marshal Tito's 1948 break with the Soviet Union and other communist states. Thirty still in Bulgarian service in 1949. Withdrawn from service in 1955-56.
