Yakovlev Yak-9M Frank
Ninety Yak-9M ordered 16 March 1945 and delivered in May 1945. Cockpit moved aft to location over the wing trailing edge. Used by 6th Fighter Polk for the fighter role. Ten aircraft used by 3rd (Advanced Training) Escadrila of the People's Air School in 1949. Withdrawn from service in late 1952. Military type number 7087.

Yakovlev Yak-9U Frank
Thirty Yak-9U/UT delivered in the summer of 1945. Lengthened fuselage, no undernose air scoop, redesigned longer cockpit canopy, no radio mast. Yak-9UT was tank-busting version with NS-23 cannon barrel projecting from propeller spinner. Used by 6th Fighter Polk and later the 16th & 36th Fighter Aviopolk for the fighter role. Withdrawn from service in late 1952. Military type number 7087. One Yak-9U to Yakovlev OKB for restoration, then to Monino Museum.

Thirty Yak-9P delivered in 1948. Post-war version of Yak-9U, with clear panel in upper rear fuselage for direction finder loop, radio mast restored. Used by 6th Fighter Polk and later the 16th and 36th Aviopolk for the interceptor fighter role. Locally modified with fuel tanks in outer wings removed and replaced by two machine guns. Withdrawn from service in 1955. Military type number 7087.
