Unit History
2 Balloon Otdelenie (2)
Role: Observation
The second existence of 2 Balloon Otdelnie (platoon) commenced in late September 1916 from part of 1 Balloon Otdelenie during the First World War. It served under Third Army command observing enemy troops movements during the offensive into Southern Dobrudja in eastern Romania.
In August 1918 the unit moved to a base at Doyran (Dojran) to support Bulgarian forces on the Salonica front near the river Vardar. On 2 September 1918 the balloon was used to direct artillery fire onto the major Entente offensive, but the following day the balloon was damaged beyond repair by strong winds. The unit was then forced to disband.
The commanding officer was Poruchik Ivan Minkov.
