Aircraft Types NOT Used

This page gives details of some of the aircraft types that were offered or promised to the Croatian Air Force but not delivered, cancelled official orders, and types that have been falsely reported as being in service.

Aerospatiale SA.341H/SA.342L Gazelle
Reports in 1996 mention the possibility of 12 Gazelle helicopters being in HRZ service. This type was never operated.

Antonov An-26 Curl
Some sources suggest that the HRZ had 3 An-26s in service by 1996, but this is likely to be due to confusion with the An-32s which were actually delivered.

Beriev Be-200
Interest was shown in the Be-200 amphibious transport/fire-bomber during the Summer of 2004, but no order resulted.

Boeing 707
A Boeing 707 has been reported with the HRZ, presumably for VIP transport. No such type has been used.

Three (5?) from the Turkish production line were ordered in 1997. The order was later deferred.

Dassault Falcon 10
One Falcon 10 bizjet is still sometimes listed as being operated by the HRZ. A Falcon 10 was operated by the Government Aviation Unit, but had retired by the time Government Aviation was taken over by the Air Force.

Jurom IAR-93 Orao 1
Reports in 1996 refer to 2 J-22 Oraos being in HRZ service. One example, serial 2425?, was captured at Udbina Airfield in Krajina on 5 August 1995. It was found without a tail section, so could not have been put into service. Possible confusion with captured Soko J-1 Jastrebs.

Mikoyan-Gurevitch MiG-21PFM
Some sources describe the 3 JRV MiG-21s that defected to Croatia in early 1992 as MiG-21PFMs. The serial numbers show that they were actually MiG-21bis versions.

Mikoyan-Gurevitch MiG-23
World Air Power Journal Vol.24 page 5 refers to Croatian Air Force MiG-23s - this type was never used.

Mikoyan-Gurevitch MiG-29
Interest was shown in buying three MiG-29 Fulcrum C from Russia in 1993. No contract resulted.

One TB-20 is reported to have been in service in 1993. There is no evidence for this.

Sukhoi Su-25
Interest was shown in obtaining a squadron of Su-25s direct from the Tbilisi factory in 1993, but no order resulted.
